Abstract
Purpose: Sacral skin stigmata in newborns are associated occult spinal dysrhaphism. This study aimed to evaluate relationship between sacral cutaneous lesion and spinal abnormalities.

Materials and Methods: From October 2016 to March 2018, we retrospectively reviewd medical records of 82 infants with sacral skin stigmata who underwent spinal cord ultrasonogram. We analyzed the patient¡¯s medical records and radiographic findings retrospectively.

Results: Of 82 infants, 5 were diagnosed with occult spinal dysrhaphism requiring neurosurgical procedure including lipomyelomeningocele (3), distal hydrosyringomyelia with intraspinal cyst (1) and limited dorsal myeloschisis with dorsal lipoma (1). These spinal abnormalities were significantly associated with skin stigmata presenting as skin tag or mass.

Conclusions: Early recognition of cutaneous markers of o ccult spinal dysrhaphism is important in newborn period to improve prognosis of underlying spinal abnormalities.
